The Cartography of Light and Memory
As an abstract expressionist visual artist, I do not merely paint; I map the invisible territories of memory, migration, and spirit. Born in Africa and shaped by early years running beneath the blazing expanse of the savanna, my path later wound through the golden rolling hills of Tuscany before finding its northern anchor in Helsinki, where I have lived independently since the age of sixteen. This lifelong journey across continents—grounded in a nomadic heritage and a deep connection to the unseen rhythms of the spirit world—forms the raw pulse of my creative process.
For as long as I can remember, wielding a brush has felt like casting a spell, conjuring stories and raw emotion directly onto the canvas. Every stroke is an act of emotional archaeology, capturing the tension between the fiery, uncontained energy of an African dawn and the profound, meditative stillness of a Nordic twilight. Through layered acrylics, heavy impasto textures, palette knives, and mixed media, my canvases become living palimpsests—surfaces where different worlds collide, converse, and find harmony.
My dedication to my craft has been shaped by years of professional training, including close mentorship with renowned masters such as Giancarlo Caneva and participation in prestigious annual art residencies. My works have been widely published in respected catalogs, including those by Editoriale Giorgio Mondadori and Catalogo Dell’Arte Moderna. Furthermore, I have participated in internationally significant events, including the Venetian Biennale 2023 and The Route of Leonardo Da Vinci.
I seek not to replicate a physical landscape, but to evoke its collective memory. Each collection is a portal into a distinct state of being, inviting the viewer to step beyond the surface and wander through constellations of color and time. The Alchemy of Technique and Spirit
For me, painting is more than an act of creation; it is a profound communion with the spirit world, an essential bridge to an alternative realm rooted in beauty, peace, and breathtaking color. My technique evolves beyond traditional application; it is a meticulous, almost alchemical process where I build canvases in three dimensions.
Using acrylics, tempera, watercolors, pastels, and heavy mixed media and sometimes oil, I apply multiple thick layers, utilizing various tools and my own fingers to literally sculpt the surface. In this dance between the physical and the metaphysical, sections of the canvas become "light receptors"—dense, palpable textures specifically designed to capture and redirect energy. Through this process, each painting is transformed into a living, vibrant entity that resonates with the rhythms of my nomadic heritage and the whispers of the spirit world.
The Genesis of Crimson Dreams
They call it a studio session, but for me, it’s a symphony of orchestrated chaos. Between the hum of the cameras, the scent of raw oils, and the precise adjustment of lights, it can feel like a production. But the second I pick up my palette knife and lay down that first stroke of deep red and burnt ochre? The room completely vanishes.
Crimson Dreams isn't just paint on canvas—it’s a direct channel to my primal memories of running wild across the African Savanna. As a child of a nomadic family, I’ve learned that 'home' isn't a fixed coordinate; it’s the energies and ancestral spirits we carry with us. Here, I’m translating that nomadic fire into something tangible. It’s vulnerable, it’s chaotic, and it’s the most beautiful way I know to breathe a memory into existence for the world to share.
